Olivia Audsley
Lady of the Blade, Arthur (she/hers)

Olivia hails from Bergen, NY. She is a Latin American, Latino & Caribbean Studies with a minor in African, African-American Studies and Government. Impressively, Olivia also does research on investment-based migration to the Caribbean and how it affects, and many times disrupts native life. Olivia speaks Spanish and has taken numerous Spanish courses but is also hoping to take a Portuguese class before graduation! In the summer of 2019, she went on the LSA+ to Santander. On campus, some of her favorite places include the fishbowl on First Floor Berry (the study space with two clear walls) and Pine Park. Olivia’s favorite DDS hack is sweet potato, almond butter, cinnamon at Foco. When she is not studying on FFB or eating sweet potatoes, she is an active leader and incredibly involved member of our community. She is a leader of the Coalition for Immigration Reform and Equality at Dartmouth (CoFIRED) and a very active organizer with the Dartmouth Student Union (DSU). She is also a part of the Sexual Violence Prevention Project (SVPP), on the planning board of Visibility (formerly VFeb), and a former member of the powerlifting team.

One of Olivia’s favorite hobbies is cooking, and when she can she also loves to travel and read. Over winter break she spent her time working at Starbucks and applying to grad school (the Women and Gender studies program at University of Toronto). If she doesn’t get into that program (which would be their loss) she will spend next year applying to law school. Lastly, as someone who is incredibly dedicated to community building, if the Castle were to be redesigned Olivia would create a room with a biiiiiiiig round dining room table for large dinners.

Julia Bonzanini

Hailing from Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Julia is a biomedical engineering major and an Italian minor. Outside of classes, Julia likes to study in One Wheelock and is an engaged member of both the Dartmouth Brazilian Society and International Students Association. Julia is an avid traveler, having done an engineering exchange program in Denmark and has even eaten falafel in NINE different countries. As for food on campus, Julia recommends adding some olive oil to all DDS food. Julia loves to cook and sew and is passionate about film and veganism. After Dartmouth Julia will pursue an MA in biomedical engineering. Julia is currently on campus enjoying the snow and ice skating. Here’s a lovely pic of Julia in Quito, Ecuador!

Jasmine Butler
Sir Lioness, Merlin, (they/she)

Jasmine is from Memphis, Tennessee and is a Geography major. Her thesis is on the 1927 Mississippi River floods and the evolution of coerced Black labor for environmental projects in the South. Jasmine went abroad to Paris to study “Afro-Black Paris and the city of Light,” where she was able to study Black Paris, colonialism, art/museum history, etc. Jasmine’s favorite spots on campus include Kresge Library, Novack, and the greenhouse in the LSC. She’s involved in FYSEP, Mellon Mays, Black Praxis, and Opal Education. For fun, Jasmine also enjoys reading, cooking and baking, and nature walks/hiking.

Post-grad, Jasmine is a network organizer with the Power Shift Network. If she could redesign part of the castle, Jasmine would create a coffee/tea bar + expanded library/reading room – a place to come for cozy drinks, books and room to read them, and space for good conversation. And if she were a blade of grass, she’d want to be in some type of wetland to get waterside views and get to mingle with the tide too…

Noah Campbell
(He/Him/His)

Noah is originally from Richmond Virginia and is a Government major with an African and African American Studies minor. Last winter, Noah was a Junior Research Scholar with RMS researching West Papuan independence. His senior honors thesis is on Black American self determination, suffering, and plurality. For study abroad, Noah was in DC for his Government DSP his Junior Fall. In terms of clubs, Noah is in the Coast Jazz Orchestra, Hop Fellows Program, Music Department Antiracist Commons, and Dartmouth College Radio. Post-graduation, Noah is hoping to work a while before applying for Ph.D programs in Political Science or Black Studies.

Gabe Canfield
(She/her)

Gabe is from Ketchikan, Alaska and is an Environmental Studies/Native American studies dual major. She has studied abroad in New Zealand, and her favorite place on campus is the Native American House. At Dartmouth, Gabe is involved in Native Americans at Dartmouth, Aurora, and Street Soul. Gabe also loves spending time in the outdoors.

Maggie Flaherty
Lady Florence, Wellness Chair, (she/hers)

Maggie hails from Ukiah, CA, and is majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Spanish. During her time at Dartmouth, she got to hone her Spanish skills on the Buenos Aires FSP (foreign study program!) during her sophomore year. Maggie is extraordinarily dedicated to making the spaces she inhabits safe and welcoming, and she’s worked tirelessly on the Student and Presidential Committee on Sexual Assault (SPCSA) and in The Dartmouth Student Union (DSU). She also plays for the Club Water Polo team. When she’s not busy making change at Dartmouth (and, you know, doing the occasional classwork), she loves to be outside hiking, skiing, swimming, and kayaking–in fact, her favorite place on campus is the river! After graduation, she’s hoping to keep digging into her love for the outdoors and spend at least a year working seasonal outdoor recreation jobs.

Most importantly, if Maggie could replace one of her hands with a tool, it would be a compass because it really frustrates her when she don’t know which direction she’s going in, and she thinks she would find it grounding to always know.

Sasha Gilmore
Lady Percival, Treasurer, (she/hers)

Sasha is from Los Angeles and studies geography and environmental science here at Dartmouth. She’s worked on an awesome research project in the ENVS department where she studied the Indigenous Sami in Northern Finland and their adaptations to climate change effects. She also studied abroad in Spain and planned on heading to Prague for the geography department study abroad as well but COVID unfortunately put those plans on hold. Back on campus, Sasha has worked since freshman year at the campus snackbars and more recently at Novack, where she also spends lots of time studying and hanging out with the crew there. She also dedicated lots of time to OPAL Education programming and socializing at Epsilon Kappa Theta, so she’s obviously one of the most well-rounded members of our delegation. As the treasurer and house manager of our delegation, she has been super supportive and present in the reorganization this past year and has played an integral role in our delegation even as this year has looked so different than anyone could’ve expected for us. Next year she’ll likely be heading off to grad school, and in the meantime she’s hoping to get back into reading for pleasure in between Netflix binges and virtual hangouts with friends.

Finally, some of the more fun ideas Sasha has: when asked if she could pick a themed common space for an imaginary redesigned Castle, she said she’d create a super cozy study/nap room for delegations to unwind, relax, or enjoy the other utilities of a quiet cozy space. And finally, when asked if she had to replace one of her hands with a tool, she of course went with scissors a la Edward Scissorhands (one of her fave movies) and because how much easier opening packages from her online shopping craze could be.

Cherie-Noelle Kaanana
(she/her/hers)

Cherie-Noelle is from Pearl City, Hawai’i, and is majoring in Government/ASCL and has studied Mandarin since high school. She has been trying to learn French, ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i (Hawaiian), and Vietnamese (still a work in progress). Her favorite place on campus is the little bank at the edge of Occom pond where it’s really nice to just look at nature. Whenever her parents get a chance to visit, she’d bring them there at some point. On campus, she was involved with Alpha Theta, Club Volleyball, PRIDE Committee, AAPIHM Committee, UGA, Hokupa’a, NAD, FGSD. Her main interests and hobbies include Mandarin, drawing, baking (pre-COVID she would like going to the beach/seeing the sights at home, going to the farmer’s market, and trying out new things/going wherever the wind blows her). She’s also been trying to relearn parts of her Hawaiian heritage and a bit of ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i and has gotten back into making art in her free time!

If the castle were redefined, she would create a room with just plants in it, including medicinal ones that can be used for tea and herbs for seasoning. It can get cold and grey in the wintertime, so it’s always nice seeing a bit of green. If she was a blade of grass, she would grow somewhere where the plants have been burned/cut and the animals are waiting for new life to grow. Some random fun facts are that her dad delivered her when she was born at home, she can lift her eyebrows individually like Dwayne Johnson, and she’s never traveled outside of the U.S.!

Regarding post-grad, she went into Dartmouth expecting to go to Law School because that was what was expected of her but doesn’t really have a strong passion for it anymore. As of now, she really likes doing things where she gets to create and design – she’s currently taking a Design Thinking course and absolutely loves it. She wants to use her creativity in her work and enjoy what she’s doing, a job where she can help make a difference, but also one where she wakes up every morning and looks forward to it. If there are any alumni that have any advice or how they navigated post-grad life, she would really appreciate it!

Rachel Kent
Social Media, (she/her/hers)

Rachel is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and is majoring in Geography, minoring in ENVS/Spanish, and has been working on her Stamps Scholar Project. She has been studying “more than human ethics of care” on small-scale farms. The “more than human” refers to the conglomerate of humans, animals, plants, and all other beings that exist in our environment. Right now, she’s working on turning all of these experiences into a senior thesis in Geography! Rachel has also done a Spanish language study abroad in Santander, Spain and an environmental studies program in South Africa and Namibia!

Her favorite place on campus is a toss-up between the Organic Farm and Sanborn. On campus, she was involved with the DOC (Cabin and Trail, Environmental Stewardship Division, Women in the Wilderness), sustainability (Sugar Crew, Intern, O Farm, Sustainable Living Center), the Dartmouth Student Union (organization for radical organizing/politics on campus), FUERZA (supports migrant dairy workers in the area by teaching ESL lessons, providing material aid, and building community). If she looks familiar to you, you may also have seen her working as a tour guide around campus!

She is undeclared in her plans for post-grad. If any alumni are involved in cool food systems work, please let her know! She is currently waiting to hear back on a Fulbright to study food systems at a master’s program in Italy. If she had to redesign a room in the castle, she would love to have a rooftop garden with vegetables and a few flowers, too!

Rachel’s favorite DDS hack is the sourdough from Red Hen bakery—definitely slept on! On other days when the other options for bread are looking grim, she likes to use Red Hen’s sourdough to make sandwiches in the panini press. Her favorite combo is a sweet potato, pesto, arugula, goat cheese, and balsamic!

Olivia Lovelace

Rohini Mandal
(she/her)

Rohini is from Las Vegas, Nevada and is a Quantitative Social Science major with a Global Health minor. She studied abroad in Prishtina, Kosovo for the Global Health Policy Lab, and her favorite place on campus is the Tower Room. Rohini is involved in Friday Night Rock, Asian and Asian Americans for Action, and the Office of Residential Life. She spent her winter break on a gap year back home. Post-grad, she is thinking of a Finance or Tech PM, with a MPH down the road…

Fun fact: Rohini has been to over 20 concerts! If she could create a themed common space in the Castle, Rohini would have a contemporary design (but with the regale of the library retained). And, if she were a blade of grass, she’d choose to grow where the opening scene of The Sound of Music took place in Salzburg Austria!

Sydney Nguyen
(she/her/hers)

Sydney is from Valley Center, California and is a double major in Anthropology and Native American Studies. Her senior thesis in anthro is called “Where We Go To Continue: Building a Nation and Future Through Kumeyaay Bird Dancing and Singing.” Sydney did her Japanese LSA in Tokyo, and her favorite places on campus are The Green and Novack. She is involved on campus with Street Soul Dance Team, Novack and Native Americans at Dartmouth, and post-graduation is looking to teach.
